At the park, Amputeddy meets a new friend who is missing an arm. They play together and become friends. While they play, they compare their experiences and trials as amputee kids with their special outlook on life. An advocate and friend to Amputees since her own amputation at age five, Jean Boelter was an inspiration throughout her life. In 1988, she and Kate Policani, her niece, created Amputeddy. In 2005 they co-wrote the Amputeddy books with help from illustrator, Marta Creswell. Marta is her sister and lifelong supporter of Jean and her work for amputees.
After Jean's death in 2010, the Amputeddy company was donated to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington and the books went to Kate. Kate has re-published them and all proceeds will go to Harborview's Amputeddy program.
