Atlanta has risked her own life to save mankind and in the midst of battle, she has tumbled down an ancient stairwell along with the possessed girl. Unbeknown to her, she has just descended the very steps that will take on the same path as Dante, and down into the inferno. Trapped deep under the earth there is no way out for Atlanta except for her to move forwards and brave the horrors of each of the nine realms of hell.

The architect has been forced to take on a human form with all of its flaws to try and find her. He searches high and low for Atlanta but without success. Upon finally discovering her fate, he decides to follow her down the stairway to hell, where he too must travel through each of the nine circles of hell and face the horrors that are waiting for him.

During his quest, he discovers that even the circles of hell have evolved. He encounters a modern version of the nine realms and the sights and scenes that he discovers lead him to question the decisions that he has made since the dawn of mankind. If he somehow makes down it to the lowest level alive, then he will enter Cocytus and there within the final realm he will come face to face with his eternal foe where the final battle for mankind will begin.
