April in the Arctic means there are still three months left until spring arrives. Spring, springs into action overnight and the next day it is summer. And then, just before you realize that it is summer, snow flies and you skip over the season of fall and fast-forward back into winter once again.
But in April you get to squint into the sun. It blinds you with its prisms of brilliance. Snow banks transform into mountains of diamonds that humans cannot capture in their too warm fingers. Dazzling white snow is defined by the deepest of blue skies. A blaze of sunlight that doesn’t last for hours yet, but it is enough to revitalize the solar powered smiles on people’s faces.
Hearts sing in the sunshine after months of darkness. Cold remains, but the smiles threaten to deplete it with their radiance of warmth.
