If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to live in a Moscow high rise, in the shadow of Stalin’s Eighth Sister, the skyscraping Triumph Palace, then this is the book to read. Susy gives you the skinny on the highs and lows of residing just a few metro stops from Moscow’s fabulous Red Square. I was hooked by the Preface: their Jack Russell is missing in freezing Moscow and Mike and Susy are distraught. I was tempted to head straight to Moscow which begins half way through the book but became engrossed in Susy’s characters, locations and Jingo, the puppy, who along with Susy, narrates the family’s shenanigans in America, England and France. It’s an amusing, perceptive, chronological path for showcasing Moscow. At this point the book transforms from an appealing, witty read into an intoxicating adventure where you care passionately about the characters, can’t wait for the next metro ops and find yourself yearning for Jingie to be found.
