Duncan MacLeod becomes embroiled in an adventure, which takes him to the Temple of the Feathered Serpent in Teotihuacan – a place of mystery and unexplained historical events.

Having purchased a rare set of ancient South American llama statues, Duncan is unaware of their ritual significance to an immortal Olmec, named Kawill, whom he met in the nineteenth-century.

Kawill believes that, because he is an Immortal, he is also destined to become a god. Having searched for most of his immortal life for a special codex – a set of instructions for an event which occurred in approximately the year 700 AD at Teotihuacan -- he intends to repeat the dark ritual, written on that codex, in the Olmec language, and stop time, as the Aztecs understood it.

Duncan does not take Kawill, or his beliefs, very seriously – a position he quickly comes to regret when Kawill and his associate, Estela attack the barge and endanger Tessa and their guest.

With Duncan and Richie fired up and ready to take heads, they are almost blindsided when Horton – a renegade Watcher, bent on the destruction of all Immortals, crosses their paths, unexpectedly.

With Tessa and their guest missing, and time running out, Duncan fears he is playing into the hands of Kawill with each move he makes. Can Duncan stop this Immortal, at the temple of the Feathered Serpent and on his terms, before time is up?
