When Keith loses his farm to a bank, and his wife deserts him, he comes to Glenville to work. There he lives, as a lodger, with a gay man. The relationship between Keith and Jacob is purely platonic and when, a year later, Keith gets the opportunity to work as a foreman on the farm he used to own he jumps at the chance.
