The sites are varied and were the homes of leaders and literati, merchants and millionaires, poets and Pilgrims, philosophers and farmers, and seafarers and Shakers.

Each chapter lists the museum’s location, web address, and telephone number and provide a description of the historical occupants as well as an in-depth look at the house's place in national and architectural history.
