Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903) was an American writer working in the genres humour and satire and collecting folklore. He studied American and European traditions and travelled a lot while working as a journalist. Leland became famous for his comic book 'Hans Breitman's Ballads'.

This is as an Indian legend about a girl who goes seeking blueberries on Mount Katahdin. The girl feels really lonely and as he sees the mountain she wishes it to be living man who will marry her. So be it. Three years after the girl comes back to her village and gives birth to a child. The child is gifted with some strange abilities - he can kill living beings using his sight.
