“The Cherry Orchard” by Anton Chekhov is one of the famous Russian plays. It was originally produced in Russian language and it was first performed at the Moscow Art Theatre on 17th of January 1904.

The first production of the play was directed by Constantine Stanislavski. The playwright had originally intended it to be a comedy, but it does have some elements of tragedy. It is a kind of mixture of comedy and tragedy. However, the director of the play insisted that he would direct the play as a tragedy.

There has always been a debate over the dual nature of this play. The other significant and popular plays written by Anton Chekhov are “Uncle Vanya,” “Three Sister,” and “The Seagull.”
