I was still lost in my thoughts and I did not notice when she left her place. Having composed herself, combing her hair and caressing the folds of her dress, she opened the door and stepped out.

I did not leave my place and continued to remain in my state of repose. I began to think about the recent occurrences.

Suddenly, I heard her shrill voice from the street in front of the main gate, “Taxi!”

I tried to recreate the moments when she was inside the house. It was all there in front of me. Hardly had I started to drift back into the memory lane, when I heard the sound of a taxi coming to a halt in front of our main gate. Then there was the sound of the opening and closing of the taxi door.

The taxi started again and left the place, but I did not leave my place, actually, I did not want to get up and look outside.

It seemed as if I was under some kind of emotional load that numbed my physical activity, and my mind was almost stilled. I felt as if my conscience became retarded for a while. I was watching everything that happened in and outside the room, yet I felt that I did not see anything; I heard everything, but it seemed I didn’t listen to anything. A strange kind of lethargic feeling had overpowered me.
