The 2015/16 English Premier League season was one of the finest ever, even including the ones that happened before Sky took over.  Not one person alive could have honestly predicted the story with it’s heroes and villains and it’s twists and turns.

“Martinez will be in charge at Everton until the fat lady sings, but the sight of a famous Italian tenor banging out his greatest hits before kickoff might be a subtle clue as to his future”

Through his newspaper column “Tales from the Top Flight” author and sports writer Chris Darwen cast his satirical eye over proceedings and now the collection of ramblings have been put together in this book.

“Leicester, Spurs or Arsenal? The answer seems to change weekly. I’m still going Leicester. Or Spurs. Not Arsenal, it’s never Arsenal”

Go back to the very beginning where people were wondering how a manager sacked by Greece having lost to the Faroe Islands could land a job in the top division.  Recall the shock waves sent round the world when Mourinho criticised a doctor for doing their job, but failed to criticise some players for not doing theirs.  Remember how Brendan Rodgers was plotting to be the new Bill Shankly and Martinez hoped to be as successful as Joe Royle.

“Getting absolutely smashed in Southampton over Christmas is quite a tradition for several people I can imagine, but it was not really part of Arsene’s plans”

“Tales from the Top Flight” is an all encompassing review of the 2015/16 Premier League season and the ending still seems bizarre even though we all know what happened.
