A very long time ago a Great Wizard, cast a spell over twelve oak trees giving them the power of magic. They turned themselves into a living library, so they could look after all the magical books. The Golden Crested Woodpecker helped create all the rooms in this enchanted library. As each room is finished the oak trees produced one glowing acorn, inside is a new Delf, waiting to be born. The Delfs are small, lovable creatures and are very wise and full of magic. They work in the enchanted library. The Great Book of Magical Spells could only be opened by the Great Wizard, Princess Blossom or the Delfs.
When the Queen of the magical kingdom wanted more power she asked the Great Wizard to tell her the magical words to open the Great Book of Magical Spells, he refused, so she banished him from the Magical Kingdom. Princess Blossom also refused, so the Queen cast a spell for the first and only time, which trapped all the Delfs inside the books. With no one controlling magic, the Twelve Trees Library and all the books on magic, along with the Delfs, travelled into our world. There they stayed trapped, for many years until an old bookbinder called Tom, unknowingly started to free them. Tom worked in a small town’s reference library, inside the Community Centre. In the warm reference library, the Delfs found they only needed clothes made from newspaper. The Delfs adventures started when a young Delf called Oakie, read the note from a girl called Jenny on the Community Centre noticeboard.
