Jason Elder is a hard working computer programmer, trying to survive in a political world. Despite his best efforts, he gets fired. He then has to undergo harassment by the more political employees.
After his firing, Jason wanders around the beach area, where he lives, trying to find out what he can. He then meets Heather, a La Jolla lady.
During a conversation with Heather, Jason reveals that he's going to sue his former employer for the continuing harassment that he he's undergoing.
Heather suggests that she might have a job lead that will prove a better solution than suing Jason's former employer.
Heather and Jason then begin a relationship.
Jason then gets a new job, mainly because of a referral by Heather. Jason generates a demo program for his new employer and manages to out compete his old employer for a major government contract. The result is that any number of people at his old employer then get laud off or fired.
The relationship between Heather and Jason continues.
Jason then discovers that Heather is the granddaughter of a man called the General. The General wields enormous political power. Jason has an interview with the General. The interview goes very well.
Jason then realizes that, with the backing of the General, he can do very well.
Heather realizes that Jason will do very well in business, but can he live in Heather's social world?
The interplay between Heather, Jason, the General and several very wealthy La Jolla people then becomes the focus of the story.
