In part three, Willy and his crew begin preparations for the invasion of the Reptilian dimension. Brian and John complete their officer’s training and Brian is assigned to Willy’s destroyer as a junior officer. John is sent back to continue his apprenticeship in the Pilot’s Guild.
The escapees from the reptilian universe go through rigorous training to join the Special Forces.
On the other side, in the reptilian universe, the Reptilian leaders consider the steps to be taken in light of the escape of the trained “monkey” pilots with two of their best ships. At the same time, the people of the “Mountain City” begin to prepare for their eventual, hoped for, “liberation”.
Brian and John get into trouble again and are sent to the Patrol reformatory for three weeks. Brian’s father finally gets to do the engineering that he loves.
Willy is eventually able to teach others how to communicate with the Reptilians.
John gets a severe beating for insubordination, but pulls himself together to go to a dinner with his future patron and adept master.
Willy is sent to recover a large number of abductees, which, unbeknownst to him, is a training operation for his future mission to the Reptilian dimension. It is also the first sortie in the war against the pirates.
After living through various troubles and tribulations, both John and Brian are brought aboard Willy’s ship for the reconnaissance trip into the Reptilian universe. During that trip they manage to wreak havoc on a number of reptilian worlds where the conditions for humanoids is extremely bad. They also manage to free all the inhabitants of the Mountain City and bring them aboard, before returning to our universe.
Planning for the war against the pirates gets underway in earnest. After John fails to convince the head of the Naev Pirates to accept the amnesty being offered to all pirates, he puts himself in serious danger by recreating the body and mind of Naev himself to defeat the pirate leader and force them to accept the difficult terms of the amnesty. John is severely punished again but is afterwards given more adept training.
With his new skills and some talents he did not know that he was blessed with, John saves the ship and the crew from an ambush in deep space. He then gets taken aboard Willy’s new destroyer for the opening battle of the Pirate War, where he uses his new talents effectively. With the war well underway, John gets sent back to continue his apprentice studies, where he falls back into his usual routine.
