Mike Davis is an ordinary guy whose computer skills far exceed his social ones. His work is his life even though his job leaves him empty. When his friends drag him to clubs, as their designated driver, he inevitably gravitates toward the game room. Only there can he escape what he longs to have yet cannot seem to find. One fateful night life shatters his comfortable if lonely routine.
Between ending one game and starting the next he meets the gorgeous and mysterious Jane, a lady who shares his interest. She stuns him when, after conquering vicious spider-trolls at the sinister Grim Gate, she suggests they have coffee. She then rips the world out from under him by putting her number in his phone.
When Mike has a bad day at work Jane invites him to her favorite club. After convincing himself to go he finds his impossible fantasies might have a small seed of possibility. As an added bonus Jane, Mike and her friend Billy embark upon a quest into a strange new video game called Vortex Portal.
The game entices its players into a next-level, bleeding-edge, totally immersive adventure then springs its trap. Sparks fly, darkness falls and the three awaken to find themselves in a world totally different from their own. Monsters are real, magic works and players don't re-spawn after death. Survival means escape and even that might not be enough.
