I've been writing poetry for over 30 years and have never thought anyone had the right to read them. How wrong was I?
Everybody holds a book within them and sometimes we have to let them out. I wanted to publish this collection because it has meant so much to me in writing it. I spent 6 months welded to my computer, after my husband left me, because I needed to write how that left me feeling.
I always knew that I could do something with the pieces I'd written but felt no one would want to hear how sad it's all been. Now my friends and (what's left of) my immediate family have all suggested I don't keep it to myself. After thinking about it for a long time... I know they're absolutely right in what they say. I shouldn't be so selfish. Words are for everyone to enjoy or to relate to. Who am I to deny you the opportunity to read what I write?
I started writing as a teenager. It was my only way of escaping a tormented childhood with a Muvva (Mother) who rarely showed she cared. She was a bloody good actress in front of friends and family, but I couldn't believe a Muvva could be that cruel. The sad thing is ... I thought all Muvvas were like that with their daughters. I guess I got that one very wrong too.
This collection covers lots of different sides of my personality but, as ever, has quite emotional undertones. You might find some of it rather sad but that's my life for you!
Anyway, have a read and see what you think. You might find a poem that makes you feel better about yourself ... but, then, that's what my aim is. If I can show you my lowest points in life, then maybe you'll feel a lot happier about yours. Enjoy!
