Mary is a child "marked by cocaine" who takes a hard look at her life and decides that she has to take charge to make sure that drugs don't tear her family apart. She works to get other children at her school and the people of her community to join her in her "March Against Drugs. She also helps others who are dealing with drugs in their lives by creating a safe environment for discussions.

Though her journey is tough and her mother is removed from the family while she deals with her addiction, Mary and her sisters are cared for by a loving foster parent who gives Mary a role model and helps strengthen her resolve to make her neighborhood drug-free.
