Rosa's mother, Mrs Funani, asks her to take her little sister to Mrs Mabuza's house. Rosa thinks that her mother herself asks her to do too many things. She decides to look for paid work.
She sees that her friend, Nomsa, is busy. Nomsa asks her to help Mr Phiri, a restaurant owner. Mr Phiri isn't satisfied with the way she washes the dishes. He tells her to use more soap. Nomsa becomes nervous and clumsy. As a result she runs away.
Mr Desai, a garage owner, asks her to clean oily, greay things. He pays her well, but she gets very dirty.
Mr Magula asks her to take several messages for him, to several people. She walks and runs so that she deliver all the messages.
She muddles all the messages.
She falls asleep, and when she wakes up her mother is with her. Rosa tells her she'd rather do her mother's dirty work than have to remember too many things. She'd much rather work for her mother after all.
